| General Information |
There are several different ways to install our programs depending on your PC network.
Please choose an option from the list below for more details. Exceptions to different methods are listed in part 4. You can check the table at the bottom for an at-a-glance guide to which methods work for each program.
All our installations for Mac computers work the same way; you just need to copy the contents of the disk across to a folder on the local machine.

|
1) Installing Individual MSI using Group Policy (GPO) |
Back to Top |
| This is our recommended method for installing across a network, and has the benefit of not needing to go to each machine to install the software / dlls. You can download instructions for this. These MSIs are designed for Windows 2000 and 2003 domain architecture, with 2000/XP/Vista clients. |
|
2) Installing 2Simple Collection MSI using Group Policy (GPO) |
Back to Top |
These instructions have been specifically tailored for the 2Simple Collection but the same principles can apply for individual installs. This is our recommended method for installing across a network, and has the benefit of not needing to go to each machine to install the software / dlls. You can download instructions for this. These MSIs are designed for Windows 2000 and 2003 domain architecture, with 2000/XP/Vista clients.
You may receive an error, ‘The System administrator has set policies to prevent this installation’ when installing Collection2v 101 MSI individually or via GPO. Please visit the following link and download the appropriate hot fix for your system. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925336

3) Installing on the local drive of each computer |
Back to Top |
This is recommended for those cases where it is not possible to deploy the software using the MSI. This is the case particularly for those programs which require an extra step when installing on the server only (option 4), such as Infant Video Toolkit, 2Create, 2Create A Story and 2Connect. Just take the CD to each computer, put it in the CD drive, and the installation sequence should launch automatically.

|
4) Installing on the server with shortcuts on the clients / workstations |
Back to Top |
While this method is supported, it can be time-consuming as it is still necessary to visit each machine and install certain files locally for the majority of our programs. In addition, some programs require further customisation so this is not a recommended method for Infant Video Toolkit, 2Create, 2Create A Story and 2Connect; however, it is still possible to install the software in this way if this is required.
NB: Please see “Special Cases” for exceptions to this method
-
Install the software on the server and create shortcuts to the program for the clients.
-
Run a small program called a “DLL installer” on each workstation.
- For Infant Video Toolkit, 2Connect, 2Create A Story and 2Connect, download further instructions to customise the Temp folder location.
The DLL installer should be found on the CD ROM. Just put the disk in the drive, open My Computer, right-click on the CD drive and click Explore. It will be inside the folder called “DLL”. On older CDs you may not find the DLL Installer, but this can be downloaded.
Each program needs certain files installed on the machine using the program. The DLL installer makes sure these are in place. Some programs are dependent on other software, such as Flash Player, to run properly. Please check what is required in part 7 below.

5) Installing on a CC3 network |
We make CC3 MSIs for all our programs. These are available free of charge on request. Please contact us on (020) 8203 1781 or info@2simple.com. Our technicians have been for training courses at RM and WISE in the best ways to create and test MSIs.

6) Special Cases and Thin Clients |
2Type and Simple City do not need a dll installer to run from the server.
Alphabet Soup, Modelling Toolkit and Talking Stories must be installed on each machine separately. You can use an MSI for this. If you do not have the MSI for these programs, please contact support@2simple.com.
2Email has a unique 2-part installation, instructions for which are included on the CD ROM.
NB: For 2Type and 2Review+, even if installed on each machine separately, the databases (of user names / reviews) can be centralised. Full instructions are included with the program CD ROMs, with some brief notes below.
To point the workstations at the database:
For 2Review+, on each machine simply go into the Teacher Options, and use the browse option available.
For 2Type on each machine navigate to the location where 2Type was installed on the server, go to the Data folder and double-click on “Pathfinder.exe”. This creates an entry in the registry for that machine which stores the location of the database. There is also a Database Locator utility which can be used to ensure the program is pointing at the right database.
2Simple software works on Thin Client networks.
NB:
For 2CAS, 2Create, 2Connect, 2Animate, you need to ensure each pupil has a unique temporary folder (see above section)
Also, for Music Toolkit – 2play, 2synthesise and 2compose will not work because thin client does not support MIDI

7) What does my program need to run? |
Some programs depend on an additional program being installed, such as Adobe (Macromedia) Flash Player 7 or above, which we recommend installing for the majority of our programs. In many cases, the Flash Player installation will be in the "Tools" or "3rd Party" folder of the CD-ROM, but you can also download this .
2Animate requires DirectX. This can be found on the CD-ROM. Some machines will also require Microsoft VB Runtime files.
2Type and 2Review+ require MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Component) 2.6. This should be installed automatically if the system requires it. Computers running Windows XP should not need it, but it is included on the disk. 2Type may also require JetEngine on Windows 98. Again, the installation should include this but it's on the disk if needed.
Simple City will need MDAC 2.5 Update installed on some Windows 98 First Edition computers. |
