World Book Day 2023

Feb. 16, 2023

World Book Day was created by UNESCO on 23rd April 1995 as a worldwide celebration of books and reading. It is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The first World Book Day in the UK and Ireland took place in 1997 to encourage young people to discover the pleasure of reading and this year is the 26th Year of the day aiming to promote reading for pleasure.

Every year on 3rd March, children of all ages come together to share the joy of reading for pleasure. The World Book Day website has an amazing hub for schools and nurseries, where they have put a range of ideas and resources for World Book Day 2023 as well as resources for celebrating reading for pleasure all year round in one handy place. We've also created some great resources for you to use in your classrooms to celebrate World Book Day, as well as some great events for you and your class to take part in.

Author Resources

If you’re wanting to do some research on top authors, then we’ve got just the resources for you. From Hans Christian Anderson and Charles Dickens to Julia Donaldson and Roald Dahl, we’ve got shelf-loads of well-known writers for your class to get inspired in our Authors and Poets area. You'll be able to write profiles and book reviews, as well as completing activities on the authors' books.

Book Reviews

This year, to celebrate World Book Day, we have created Book Review Display Boards. Encourage your children to write a book review about their favourite book and share it to the Display Boards. To do this, just select a template from our templates, complete your book review, save it and then share to a display board. We've added a handy video to show you how to do this. Once they have submitted their own book review, allow your class time to browse the Display Boards to find a book review which grabs their interest. Maybe they can use their £1 World Book Day book token towards buying it after school?
