June 5, 2025
National School Sports Week is back for 2025 and the dates it will run from are the 16th to the 22nd of June. Created by the Children’s charity, the Youth Sport Trust, the first event was run in 2008 and has been held annually ever since. The main aim of the week is to highlight the importance of school sport for children’s physical and mental health.
This year the charity wants to shine a light on the benefits of schools taking an ‘Always Active’ approach to everyday learning, encouraging physical activity to be embedded into all aspects of the school day. This is part of their wider goal of ensuring all children take part in 60 minutes a day of PE, sport, or play. You can find out more about the week and add your pledge here.

Our free Active Lunchtime pack is perfect to download and use during National School Sports Week and beyond. The pack has been created for children to lead games and activities at lunchtime and break times in school, with children able to apply to be a Sport leader and run the activities outlined in the pack.
Each card outlines a different activity, and resources needed to run it. These can be printed and laminated and used by Sports leaders.
This free pack is a selection of some of the activities that are included with a full subscription to Striver.

Striver has been created with a sole purpose: to improve primary-aged pupils' long-term physical and mental wellbeing. We do that by ensuring children of all abilities feel motivated and engaged, and teachers of all experience levels feel confident and in control.
The package includes a whole school PE scheme of work (EYFS -Y6) with over 400 PE lessons aligned to the National Curriculum, supported by six wellbeing units, all housed in a clever website that makes primary PE planning a breeze. Also included is an Assessment Tracker, which allows teachers to assess PE on the go and created attainment and progress reports at the click of a button.
The lessons focus on developing the underlying key skills that make up all sports and activities, like using movement to create space and controlling objects with your hands or feet. Breaking elements down into key skills creates more opportunities for children to experience improvement. Each unit starts with a Personal Best Activity where children set and record their individual records. At the end of the unit the children try and beat their personal best score, and Striver shows you exactly how much each child has improved by. All units also include a PE equipment list to help make organisation even easier.
Striver also meets the government’s requirements for Sports Premium funding. The Sports Premium was first introduced to improve the provision of physical education and school sport across primary schools in England. The money is allocated directly to schools and is ringfenced, meaning that it can only be spent on improving the provision of sport and PE in schools. You can learn more on using your Sports Premium allocation on Striver here.
Striver is available for £350 (+VAT) per year, meaning that Striver’s Primary PE Scheme of Work is affordable and a great way to invest Sport Premium funding to ensure that teachers develop confidence in teaching PE.
