2Type teaches users how to type properly on a QWERTY keyboard. Each progressive activity is followed up by a short game. The two games seen within 2Type are Falling Letters and 2Pop. 2Type can be found in the English Tools.
First steps and moving on are the two categories for teaching activities – each of these folders contains a mixture of progressive teaching activities. This is followed up by a final game which focuses on the teaching activities they have been working on. When an activity is open you are able to change the duration of it by using the duration timer. In play mode a keyboard shows the children which of their five fingers to use.
2Pop is a fast-paced typing game that allows users to select the pace at which bubbles appear as well as the game duration, the faster the letters are popped then the higher the score.
Falling Letters is a game where the children have to type in letters, characters and numbers as they fall from the screen just like 2 pop the game duration and speed of falling letters can be changed.
Typing Across the Years, part of the Computing Scheme of Work, is a set of short activities for Years 1-6 that have been developed to support the teaching and learning of fundamental typing skills for children between the ages of four and eleven.
By accessing these activities, your pupils will build upon their typing efficiency, their ability to communicate effectively and their digital literacy as a whole. Typing remains a lifelong skill that remains relevant and useful throughout a person’s life and it is becoming ever important within today’s technology-driven world.
Due to the nature of these resources, teachers may wish to access them at the start or end of a lesson. Teachers are free to access these resources as many or as few times throughout the year as needed. All the activities can also be set as 2Dos if teachers wanted to set these for the children to practice their skills throughout the year.
