International Dance Day is celebrated every year on 29th April to promote art, culture and dance as an art form. It also aims to act as a ‘wake-up-call for governments, politicians and institutions which have not yet recognised its value to the people and to the individual [or] realised its potential for economic growth’. VE day or Victory in Europe day marks the day when the guns of World War II finally fell silent in Europe. This year, Her Majesty the Queen will become the first British monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee after 70 years’ service, having acceded to the throne on the 6th of February 1952 when she was just 25 years old. There are a range of events to mark this historic occasion culminating with the platinum jubilee weekend in June.

RMS Titanic was a passenger liner that, at the time of construction, was the largest ship ever built. It was on her maiden voyage sailing from Southampton, UK to New York City, USA, when she sank after colliding with an iceberg. Commemorations and ceremonies are held on the 15th April, the anniversary of the sinking, to pay respects to those who lost their lives.
