Road Safety Week: 17th - 23rd November

Oct. 29, 2024

Every year, thousands of schools, nurseries, colleges, community groups and organisations work together during the UK's biggest road safety event, raising awareness about road safety and helping save lives. Road Safety Week, run and organised by the road safety charity Brake, is the ideal time to run road safety lessons and assemblies or launch a campaign for safer local streets.

Safe Roads For All

The theme of Road Safety Week 2024 is After the Crash - every road victim counts, and for primary pupils it focuses on Road Safety Heroes and who helps care for someone after a crash.

Schools can register for Road Safety Week and the Road Safety charity Brake will send you a free online pack, full of advice, ideas and activities to help you get involved. They also have a range of resources that teachers can use to teach the subject of road safety.

Purple Mash activities

There are a range of writing and paint projects within Purple Mash that schools can use before and during Road Safety Week to raise awareness.

Why not get pupils to use 2Publish Plus to write a letter to their local Road Safety Heroes thanking them for their service, or design a poster encouraging drivers to slow down when near the school. They could also create an information leaflet for parents about road safety, and these could be put on a blog or shared with parents via a link or QR code.

More resources

Children could write about a traffic issue in their area thinking about different views. Using one of our paint projects children can design their own ambulance, they could add a sentence on why ambulances are so important, or use our MashCams to put themselves in the role of a Police Officer or Doctor, highlighting their roles as Road Safety Heroes.

ROSPA have also produced a great guide that can be shared with parents all around teaching road safety.

Whatever you do for #RoadSafetyWeek, we would love for you to share your work with us on either our Twitter or Facebook pages.
