Bringing coding to life across the Cornerstone Academy Trust: Enhancing classroom learning through hands-on computing

How Cornerstone Academy Trust uses Purple Mash and BBC micro:bits to build confidence, engagement, and inclusivity.

Across the Cornerstone Academy Trust, primary teachers are discovering the impact of integrating Purple Mash’s 2Code tool with BBC micro:bits. In a recent survey, teachers from schools across the Trust shared how this integration boosted their confidence, increased student engagement, and supported all learners, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

This year will be the last National Coding Week - it will run from 15th to 21st September and this year has the theme of AI.

In addition to the theme, there are a number of ways that schools can get involved: run a coding challenge for students, take part in the Digital skills Challenge or showcase how you are supporting coding in the school.

The refreshed and refined Purple Mash Computing Scheme gives primary schools everything they need to confidently teach Computing from EYFS to Year 6. Fully aligned to the UK National Curriculum, the scheme includes updated planning and presentations, interactive resources, and full coverage of Information Technology, Computer Science and Digital Literacy.

This will focus on a tool or application within Purple Mash and how it can be used within the classroom to support learning across the curriculum. During the month, if you share how you have used #MashoftheMonth, you will then be entered into a draw to win a 2Simple Goody bag!

April’s #MashoftheMonth is 2Animate. 2Animate helps bring learning to life and can be used to demonstrate a range of concepts across the curriculum. There are videos that explain how to use 2Animate as well as examples that pupils can use to get started and give them inspiration.
