Bringing coding to life across the Cornerstone Academy Trust: Enhancing classroom learning through hands-on computing

How Cornerstone Academy Trust uses Purple Mash and BBC micro:bits to build confidence, engagement, and inclusivity.

Across the Cornerstone Academy Trust, primary teachers are discovering the impact of integrating Purple Mash’s 2Code tool with BBC micro:bits. In a recent survey, teachers from schools across the Trust shared how this integration boosted their confidence, increased student engagement, and supported all learners, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The Mash of the Month for October is 2Code, the Purple Mash tool that introduces computer programming (coding) to children. It has three key components: free code, guided lessons and debug challenges.

In October, Black History Month will be explored across the country. It's a time for our young learners to immerse themselves in the annual commemoration to find out about the significant contributions and achievements of the black community in the UK.

Since 1994 National Poetry Day has engaged millions of people with poetry through a range of live events and web-based activities for people throughout the country. Each year the day is given a new theme in order to highlight particular poets and styles of poetry. This year's National Poetry Day is on the 2nd of October and the theme this year is 'Play'.

On Monday 22nd September Year 6 pupils at Fairlop School were treated to an inspiring and thought-provoking assembly as part of the official launch of Brainchild, the sixth and final collaboration between much-loved children's authors Ivor Baddiel and Jonny Zucker.
